PORK BELLY Futures

Rating: NNN

Paul Quarrington and Martin Worthy had a hit in 1980 with Baby And The Blues, and after 24 years opted to recapture their youth by reuniting as Pork Belly Futures. What separates them from any other grey-haired group are near perfect credentials and a really good crowd of friends. Chas Elliot of the TSO is on bass, Canadian Brass founder Stuart Laughton plays trumpet, lead guitar and harmonica, and Colin Linden and Richard Bell join in to lend a hand. Quarrington is an accomplished writer/novelist (Whale Music), so it’s the lyrics, not the vocals that really grab you. Pork Belly Futures sing the blues at Hugh’s Room Friday (August 20).
