Prince Paul Politics Of The Business (Razor & Tie) Rating: NN Rating: NN
More than a decade ago, when Prince Paul introduced the hiphop skit on De La Soul's 3 Feet High And Rising, the witty interlude between tracks seemed like a novel idea, a way to break up increasingly long hiphop records. Now the Long Island producer must be wondering what he got himself into. Despite being one of the most unorthodox and inventive beat masters on the planet, Prince Paul is stuck creating novelty albums. Politics Of The Business loosely uses the hiphop industry as a launch point for extended skits featuring everyone from GangStarr and Kardinal Offishall to Chris Rock and Chubb Rock. The cuts are impeccably produced and occasionally funny, but you can't help but feel Paul's selling himself short. He could easily put together a proper album that would last, but these kinds of comedy routines are worth one listen at most.
