Private Lounge

Rating: NNN

Since the term “lounge” has become a catch-all for any downtempo ethno-fusion or groovy club confection inspired by 60s film music, just about anything goes for Ibiza beach-bar swinger Nathan John in compiling the two-CD Private Lounge mixed disc. From NuSpirit Helsinki’s ambient jazz to Kevin Yost’s bubbly house, it’s a diverse assortment tied together by the triphop shuffle beats on the “Cocktail Lounge” disc and a giddy 4/4 bounce on the “Late Lounge” companion. Those seduced by the languid chill of the Cafe del Mar series will find Private Lounge equally soothing, although apart from Ashley Beedle’s Afro-Brazilian remix of Smith & Mighty’s Same, there’s nothing terribly memorable about it. Smith & Mighty sneak into Fez Batik Friday (May 4).
