Formed in Brooklyn last spring, post-punk thump threesome Proton Proton are already shaping up to be the next Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Their engaging second self-released EP makes the most of their drums, toy piano and 'gass' set-up. That's right, a gass. Playing conventional rockist instruments in the BK is, like, so 2004, so all the cool people are experimenting with alternative sound tools like this guitar-bass hybrid. The bouncy six-track EP#2 finds Proton Proton trying to put a happy face on the Death from Above 1979 sound, but the novelty soon wears thin. Still, it should be good for at least a 7.8 on Pitchfork.
