P.W. Long

P.W. Long Remembered ( Touch and Go ) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN

For a while there, I was sure Preston Long had given up the music thing for the more luxurious life of a New York restaurant critic/sports journalist. But despite the lure of fine dining, the Mule man is back in a Tom Waits bag, sounding just as bitter, heartbroken and murderous as ever. Remembered is a much more mature work for Long, who shows masterful restraint in his howling while his menacing love/hate ballads have become more colourfully concise and ultimately make a stronger impact. Yep, this one’s gonna leave a mark.

P.W. Long cuts loose at the 360 on Wednesday (October 15).
