Props to Rachael Sage. Ballads & Burlesque is her fifth album released on her own label, and it's a thoroughly professional affair consisting of 10 jazz-tinged folk-pop songs covering the familiar territory of love and loss. Clearly a skilled songstress, with an impressive list of credentials and famous supporters, Sage offers up a mainstream Lilith Fair female singer-songwriter sound. While it's backed up by undeniable talent and indie integrity, it would be nice to hear Sage bust out of blandness and reveal the personality her confidence and credibility hint at.
Rachael Sage plays the Cameron tonight (Thursday, June 30).
