Montreal and Texas seem like complete opposites, but bluesy roots singer Ray Bonneville proves that the two places he calls home can coexist. His sixth album, Goin’ By Feel, has an easy-going, laid-back groove that speaks to his Canadian roots, but the rugged lyrics and Bruce Springsteen-like sounds are pure Americana.
While the stories are worth hearing – tales about New Orleans in I Am The Big Easy and growing up unloved in Cemetery Road are standouts – it’s the album’s minimalist production and instrumentation that really bring out Bonneville’s passionate side.
