Montreal’s Receivers might be best known as the band that contains in-demand producer Joseph Donovan (the Dears, Sebastien Grainger). But on their debut LP, it’s vocalist Emilie Marzinotto who’s front and centre.
Passionate and rich, Marzinotto’s voice is comparable to Katie Sketch of the Organ, and does a great job of anchoring the more mellow and sometimes quirky instrumental work underneath. While Donovan provides plenty of pleasing sonic ambience on Let’s Move Along, Petrograd, and the slow-burning The Numbers, Consider The Ravens lacks a clear climax.
