RICH BOY

Rating: NN

Maurice “Rich Boy” Richards blew up over the bounce of Throw Some D’s, a mellow track in which the Mobile, Alabama-based rapper celebrates the joy of upgrading a brand new Cadillac with some Dayton rims. But doesn’t he have more to offer than accessorizing his car? Please? Other than one of the most countrified flows in rap and the hungry determination in his voice, not really. Rich Boy’s debut covers hustlin’, pimpin’ and “da Prada, da Louis, da Fendi and da Gucci.” He does a great job of staying inside the lines and covering the three to four accepted subjects of his genre. Tracks to check for are collaborative: Role Models with David Banner, Ghetto Rich with John Legend, and the star-studded Throw Some D’s Remix.
