God forgives, but should critics? Rick Ross follows up his over-thought fifth studio album with an undercooked mixtape that would be utterly forgettable were it not for its campy title and cover art.
The Black Bar Mitzvah (a theme alluded to only in an obnoxious skit featuring New York radio DJ Peter Rosenberg) finds Rozay applying his over-the-top rhyming skills to popular tracks like Juicy J’s Bandz A Make Her Dance and Chief Keef’s I Don’t Like, and reworking a few of his own.
Mostly, the mixtape falls victim to the Miami MC’s penchant for excess. He extends radio anthems like the G.O.O.D. Music crew’s Clique and 2 Chainz’s Birthday Song but fails to add more than length. Given the rushed-sounding mixing job and grating advertisements for his forthcoming Maybach Music Group tour, it’s hard to hear this effort as anything but throwaway.
