The Mississippi country great gets another Blues Explosion-style funky rhythm-and-beats overhaul, which this time sounds more like a dirt-floor collaboration with a scrappy roadhouse combo than a Pro-Tools remix afterthought.
Delta purists may still be disgusted by the turntable-scratching bits, sampled breaks and Wurlitzer fattening, but most of the production risks work surprisingly well to update Burnside's transfixing twang. The savage slash at Aretha Franklin's Chain Of Fools is nothin' but nasty.
