Road To Rouen

Road To Rouen is Supergrass all grown up. The orchestral strings that start off the album effectively distance Gaz Coombes and the boys from their not so humble 95 breakout single Caught By The Fuzz. If songs about getting busted for pot no longer fill the void, can Supergrass get by on mere maturity alone? Sure, especially when lead single St. Petersburg reprises the guitar line from Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out so shamelessly you actually think they wrote it. But Supergrass never hid their influences, and their latest follows this trend with plenty o’ Beatlesesque poppy ballads and enough of that post-psych spaciness to make you understand why you liked 95’s I Should Coco so much in the first place.
