Now that Robert Cray is done with the Memphis soul sound of O.V. Wright, he’s ready to try Al Green’s on for size. But on Shoulda Been Home, instead of hiring the Hi Rhythm section while he was in town to get the Teenie Hodges guitar licks and the charging grooves of drummer Howard Grimes down right, he makes the mistake of using his sidemen’s own lifeless approximations. Cut out the middleman by picking up a copy of Al Green’s I’m Still In Love With You album.
