Robert Hood Point Blank (Peace Frog) Rating: NNN
Robert Hood is one of the Detroit-based techno producers influential in the genre's shift toward the ultra-minimalism the Germans seem to like so much. This latest full-length from him sticks to the sounds we expect -- cold, uncompromising, metallic-sounding loops that progress and change at a snail's pace over a pounding beat. Most of the album's reasonably hard, with a few slower, quirky tracks thrown in to break up the constant thump. Good, but not mind-blowing.
