Roy Big City Sins And Small Town Redemption (Fueled by Ramen) Rating: NnNN

Rating: NNNN

There was never any doubt that when the post-hardcore generation grew weary of venting over an amped-up thrash, those who chose to turn down the volume and adopt a more narrative composition style would eventually arrive at a version of “Americana” different from the previous class of punk graduates. Admirably, the members of Botch and Harkonen who picked up acoustic guitars and formed Roy haven’t settled for the familiar alt-country clich&eacutes of their flannel-flying elders. Their self-assured Big City Sins And Small Town Redemption debut full-length, produced by Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Tuatara, Blood Brothers) is tastefully twangy in all the right places and presents a mature world view without going soft and sappy.
