SCAPEGOAT WAX

SCAPEGOAT WAX SWAX (Hollywood) Rating: NN Rating: NN

Right off the top, it should be noted that SWAX shares seven of the same tracks with Scapegoat Wax’s Okeeblow debut release, which means only five of these tunes are new. Scapegoat Wax do an OK job of following in Beck’s hiphop/rock/funk fusion footsteps, borrowing from across the board, switching between funky Stevie Wonder moments, organ-driven retro pop with loopy mixes and catchy vocal lines. The lyrics of MC Marty James flip from the mildly clever to the completely banal, putting them in the same league as, say, Iffy or 2 Skinnee J’s.
