According to Sea Snakes' tip sheet, some of these guys used to play in hardcore bands. Strange, because you'd never know it from listening to their moody and often captivating debut. Dotted with twinkling guitars, swelling string arrangements and some very clever Pet Sounds-style sax and horn figures, this is about as un-hardcore as things get. The band occasionally noodles, but singer Jimmy McIntyre's breathy, indie boy vocals offset most of the post-rock posturing, ensuring the songs never lose their way. Don't expect to start a circle pit at one of their shows.
