Seal has always seemed like a singing philosopher from the future, and with producer Stuart Price in the sidecar for most of his sixth album, he's found the perfect soundtrack.
Price (aka Jacques Lu Cont, Thin White Duke, etc) outfits Seal with the compact but lush house-influenced style he's lent Madonna and countless remixees. Otherwise, System is trademark Seal: poetic pop melodrama in minor keys and that gentle, husky voice.
People who like him, rejoice. Those who don't may continue to live without his music. Someone who can't do that is wife Heidi Klum, who sings on Wedding Day, a grating duet about their marriage. Seal should have heeded the Notorious B.I.G.'s words: "Keep your family and business completely separated."
