Folktronica is a pretty awful genre term, but it’s a quick way to describe this kind of thing. “Acoustic indie folk arrangements plopped over lo-fi experimental sampler beats and sound effects” is the long way. It’s not groundbreaking, but this Halifax trio does a decent take on the sound.
The electronic bits aren’t too obtrusive, and the pop isn’t overly precious. If anything, that restraint is both its strong point and its weak link, keeping Pedestrian from becoming cartoonish, but the emotional content seems so contained that it’s verging on ambivalence.
