Shikasta

Rating: NNNN

Reuniting with producer Ian “Two Louder” Blurton for the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Gold album proves to be a wise move for local thud-rock trio Shikasta. Weight Of The Sun benefits enormously from Blurton’s pummel-enhancement techniques for small combos, gleaned from recording the Illuminati and his own C’mon sessions. He amplifies Shikasta’s heavy rhythmic wallop, through their transitions from stoner grind to prog hammering and on through their boogie blues breakdowns. With bass-beating shouter Russell Fernandes exerting more mature control over his banshee belting, Shikasta may have the real gold goods this time. Shikasta preview Weight Of The Sun at the Silver Dollar Friday (November 12).
