SISTER VANILLA

What’s even more surprising than the Jesus and Mary Chain nutter brothers Jim and William Reid reuniting with Ben Lurie to back singing sibling Linda Reid in the studio is that Sister Vanilla’s Little Pop Rock debut isn’t terrible. Even though this isn’t meant to be a JAMC reunion album, the focus is clearly on Linda’s waifish cooing. Fans of the Mary Chain’s Suicide-meets-Shangri-Las hijinks will have an immediate connection to Sister Vanilla’s sweetly sinister sound, particularly when Jim or William steps up to the microphone to add his droning vocals. We can all be thankful they’ve picked up where Darklands, rather than Munki, left off.
