Slipknot

Rating: NNNN

Even though their stage costume/homemade-Halloween-mask bullshit is beyond laughable, there’s a reason Slipknot have so many rabid fans, or as they prefer to be called, maggots. It’s because the band can put on a phenomenal and intense live show. Culled from various performances over their last world tour, 9.0 is a real treat – 24 live tracks spanning their three studio albums. The production is surprisingly clear for a live record, and the entire band has no problem sounding fucking bananas but still like a well-oiled machine. Singer Corey Taylor (whose language would make a sailor blush) has the crowd eating out of his hand, while drummer Joey Jordison’s performance is jaw-droppingly good. Think what you will about Slipknot, but if 9.0 is any indication of their ability, then more power to ’em. Just wish they’d stop wearing those stupid fucking masks.
