Everyone figured Sloan were finished when they released their disappointing American power pop project Action Pact. Luckily, the East Coast-bred legends realized if the U.S. hasn't embraced them yet, they likely never will. That epiphany meant one thing: Sloan could return to what they do best - creating captivating pop songs. On their sixth release (their best since Between The Bridges), they revisit the sounds of their past. Fading Into Obscurity could've been a Twice Removed B-side, while Someone I Can Be True With would fit well next to Chester The Molestor on Navy Blues. Among 30 songs there will inevitably be some stinkers, and Never Hear The End Of It has a few. Still, it's nice to have the old Sloan back.
Sloan play the Kool Haus Friday (October 6).
