Soulwax

Rating: NNN

2 Many DJs mash-up mavens Stephen and David DeWaele revert to their Soulwax band incarnation in an attempt to convince people that they’re really serious pop craftsmen and not just a couple of studio dweebs who derive deviant kicks from fucking around with New Edition and Van Halen tracks. Only with Any Minute Now, they appear to be unsure whether to follow the path to the charts set by the Pet Shop Boys, Prodigy or Basement Jaxx and wind up coming off with an overly self-aware Kajagoogoo tribute without the festive feather work or coy sense of whimsy. They should stick to their turd-polishing pastime of making yesterday’s annoying hits palatable to the club crowd.
