Vancouver’s Stabilo have garnered enough local attention and adoration that Virgin/ EMI took notice and signed ’em up. And for good reason. Stabilo possess all the qualities that make for a mega-selling band: solid musicianship, soaring, gruff vocals, a pop alterna sound and a Coldplay look Much and MTV will drool over. So what if virtues like soul and passion are missing? Lead singer Jesse Dryfhout’s delivery is so searingly wanting, you almost believe he’ll find them by album’s end. That he doesn’t may bum you out, but after hearing them follow Finger Eleven every hour on the hour on the Edge, you’ll soon discover a passion all your own.
Stabilo play the Drake Saturday (May 15).
