This album by rising Dublin foursome Stand kicks off sounding bone-chillingly like Chad Kroeger read one of those improve-your-vocab books, then wrote and recorded an entire independent rock album. The harder rockers here feature enough Nickelbackisms to destroy part of your soul forever. Then there’s Walking With Ghosts, a song trying so hard to be country that it seems like a parody but isn’t. Stand are miles more palatable when they work echoey synths and bare guitar lines or do their best Fall imitation, but those moments are few and far between.
Stand hit Lee’s Palace Wednesday (August 10).
