It's nearly impossible not to compare Stereo Image to fellow Hamiltonians Junior Boys. Former Junior Boys tourmate San Serac and former Junior Boy Johnny Dark of Stereo Image also play in the delicate, down-tempo electro sandbox.
Not content to remain as sedate as the Boys, Stereo Image cop a bit of Chromeo in their more aggressive and emotional moments but never rise to the instantly catchy heights of either. The record starts strong with percussive opener Pack Moves, but fails to engage with follow-up Strange Life. Hang on for Dark Chapter, though, as it features the album's strongest synth hook, a descending line that sounds like Depeche Mode.
