Evidently having decided it’s time to take stock, Stereolab have assembled the career-spanning set Oscillons From The Anti-Sun. But as you might expect, the three-CD-plus-DVD box isn’t your typical best-of collection. This odd assortment, which mixes fan faves with single-only obscurities, outtakes and live tracks, isn’t sequenced chronologically or thematically, and other than an alphabetical list of session participants’ names – no instruments divulged – there are no accompanying notes or photos. Instead, you get a few sleeve repro stickers if you’re lucky enough to grab a first-edition issue. The DVD is the real interest here, boasting eight intriguing, rarely seen video clips – check Laetitia Sadier’s hilarious dance moves on Wow And Flutter – which reveal director Nick Abrams isn’t above recycling his own ideas, and three live UK TV performances that are equally entertaining.
