British Columbia’s Steve Dawson is a true guitar aficionado, playing no fewer than eight different stringed instruments on this album, from slide guitar to dobro to pedal steel. The songs are mostly country blues guitar folk, with perceptible Bruce Cockburn influences and occasional Hawaiian touches thrown into the mix. Dawson is undeniably talented at everything he does – from the breadth of instrumentation to his surprisingly capable singing and his fine production – but Gold Coast’s high-quality music is probably best appreciated by roots music fans and guitar buffs.
