Since Steve Earle's become such a politically outspoken rabble rouser, you'd expect a live offering to come with a fair-sized portion of rant. But this acoustic set for a Swiss audience is an unexpectedly muted affair with zero banter between songs. Fine, it's all about the music -- that's cool. Unfortunately it's just not enough. The show feels subdued and unsatisfyingly stark. Earle speeds through his material, and songs that usually rev with his band. Condi Condi, The Revolution Starts Now and Copperhead Road, for instance, are hollowed out and light under Earle's high-volume husk. Heavy fans might want to pad the collection with this, but neophytes should seek his superior live disc Just An American Boy, which is only three years old.
