Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots Thank You (Atlantic) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

Considering the ups and downs Stone Temple Pilots have gone through over the years, it’s impressive that they can come up with enough hits to make a whole record. Somehow, they managed (and many of these songs actually were hits). Most of these tunes are straight-ahead post-Pearl Jam brawn rock, but that’s what STP are all about, and a lot of them are great. Thank You kicks in with Vasoline, which has gotta get you nostalgic, then moves through Down, Plush (a second acoustic version closes the disc) and Big Bang Baby, offering a wide collection of tunes from a long set of years. Whatever. You know the tunes. Listening to this best-of, you can almost forgive Stone Temple Pilots for helping to spearhead the current movement of meatrock that gave us bands like Nickelback and Creed. Almost, but not quite.
