Super friendz

Super friendz Love Energy (Outside) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN

These days, with the Hidden Cameras, Broken Social Scene and the Three Gut Legacy blowing up on international stages, the Toronto indie pop scene is hogging all the limelight. But remember the time a mere decade ago when all the signs pointed east? The Super Friendz were in the centre of the Halifax pop explosion of the mid-90s, sharing the hooky, jangly, harmony-laden ethos of pals like Sloan, Cool Blue Halo and Thrush Hermit. Canuck indie kids devastated when their Friendz folded in 97 will be thrilled with this reunion disc, which sparkles with the creativity and zing of yore. Love Energy is downright excellent pop wizardry, from the fizzy guitars of the opening track to the Brit snottiness of Girls And Their Boys (evoking Pulp’s Common People) and on through the wistful The Sad They Walk On.
