SUPERGRASS Life On Other Planets (EMI) Rating: NN Rating: NN
Give Britpop survivors Supergrass credit for trying to grow up and sound like a mature rock band on 1997's In It For The Money. The sad fact was that no one really cared, so it's back to goofy, supercharged three-minute power pop on Life On Other Planets. There's absolutely nothing mature, or even new, here. The Oxford crew essentially rewrite the snotty, 70s-style riff rock that made them in the first place, but that's precisely the point. It might not mean much for the group's longevity, but that Supergrass have stuck around even this long with such a slim arsenal is impressive enough.
