SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK

Rating: NNNNN

This is as life-affirming as music gets. These seven earth goddesses deliver simple melodies with a kitten-soft touch of kindness and joy. But the disc might be way too saccharine for the average, cynical modern citizen. It’s hard to criticize such a well-intentioned project meant for bright-eyed young children, and songs like 4 U 2 Know As U Grow, Trust and Me Is We will undoubtedly encourage the best in them. But parents in the minivan who are asked to press repeat on the catchy harmonizing for the 13th time might begin to feel like the honey is way too sweet.

Nevertheless, the lessons within are truly lovely and ultimately worthy of anyone’s appreciation.
