Syndicated This Ain’t New York (Mapl) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN

I love this disc. It’s like someone pulled the chainsaw out of Bret Easton Ellis’s ass and replaced it with a sense of humour. Syndicated are a Toronto trio of “corporate misfits” mouthing off about things like office politics and the pretenses of corporate culture on tunes like 905 (“She don’t like my kind cuz I’m 416 and she’s 905”), Adult Contemporaries and Cougaristas. Syndicated cleverly jam many of the best and worst elements of power pop, Britpop, new wave, neo-glam and post-punk on This Ain’t New York. You can almost feel the posturing and smell the attitude. They’re smart and they rock.

Syndicated play a Youth Assisting Youth benefit with the Perms tonight (Thursday, July 31) at Clinton’s.
