West Coast folksinger Tamara Nile has been making inroads in the acoustic scene over the past few years with her silky-smooth vocals and banjo-picking skills. Don’t take that to mean she’s a purist singer/songwriter, though. She brings a variety of textures and ideas to this EP, even flirting with dub reggae grooves on Reverie.

Nile’s clearly got potential as a pure pop singer, but at her best moments her rootsy country tendencies rub up against quirkier modern textures. When she tries her hand at straight-up rock on Rock Whatcha Got, she doesn’t stand out nearly as strongly from the crowd, but, that’s a brief detour before she’s back doing what she excels at.
