The Acorn

Rating: NNNN

Like a blanket, the Acorn’s delicate ditties envelope you in coziness. Refined, stripped-down acoustics and blips of electro-folk combine in layered, wistful arrangements and show a mastery of creative direction. Rolf Klausener’s vocals are natural and genuine and harmoniously fit with fellow nutty members Jeff Debutte and Howie Tsui. Their spontaneous use of instruments and noisemakers, everything from a Casio to kitchen utensils to what they call a ghetto cello, enhances the endearing sound and childlike curiosity. This four-song EP leaves listeners longing for a full album.
