Nine years and a couple debilitating heroin addictions after their accidental brush with stardom, the Breeders are back, and pretending nothing happened in the interim. Title TK isn't so much a sequel to Last Splash as an extra 40 minutes to tack onto the end of 1990's classic Pod sessions. Captured in desert-dry analog by Steve Albini, the Breeders lurch along eloquently, with Kim Deal sounding as though she's on the verge of a complete breakdown and her frail backing band not much better. Proper songs are in short supply, replaced by random notes and errant blurts, and the prevailing emotion at the end of the album is one of relief that they made it through without self-destructing yet again. Welcome back.
