Album reviews Music

The Clash

Rating: NNNNN

Realizing that it’s no longer possible to get away with reselling popular catalogue albums by repackaging them with a couple of added mono takes, Sony has enhanced the Clash’s breakthrough London Calling album with a bonus DVD featuring a 30-minute Don Letts documentary on the making of the masterwork along with behind-the-scenes home video of the recording sessions and promo clips. Perhaps even more interesting for hardcore fans and historians is the extra Vanilla Tapes disc of previously unheard pre-recording rehearsals which reveals just how drastically the songs were reshaped by the band in the studio. They really pulled this one out of the fire. It actually makes the finished product seem even more impressive.
