Many went from praying for a garage rock revival to feeling altogether sick to fuckin' death of the overplayed, oversaturated "return of rock 'n' roll." Unfortunately, that means some of the better bands in this genre are going to suffer. If I swallow my frustration, I can find the merit in the Datsuns' latest release. There's some seriously ass-shakin' stuff here, and John Paul Jones has made the whole record beefy and slick but not too glossy. Coolio riffs ride catchy rhythms, and the energy stays high as a kite, tearing up the joint from start to finish. Dolph De Datsun's vocals are more snotty attitude than genuine talent, and that's OK. I guess it's a pretty perfect record for what it is.
