This is chaotic noise rock steeped in psychedelia, with frenetic keyboards, distorted guitars and lots of dissonance, but surprisingly melodic, with shifts in tone and tempo all over the board. Here we’re soaring through space, here we crash. It seems the Double are trying to display emotion through their music. Not that everybody isn’t in some way or other, but here emotion appears to be the driving force, which could be totally catastrophic but isn’t. Slightly more successful than emo at evoking reactions with sonic experimentation, if not exactly the most listenable thing I’ve ever heard.
The Double play Lee’s Palace Monday (September 5).
