Album reviews Music

The Dzihan & Kamien Orchestra

Rating: NNN

Austrian production duo Dzihan and Kamien have put together a 22-piece band and recorded a live album, shifting their sound from ethno-triphop to something closer to acid jazz. In other words, where they used to sound like Kruder & Dorfmeister, they now sound more like the Brand New Heavies. There’s a bit of scratching here and there, but it’s pretty much a live jazz funk album. Unfortunately, while it’s all pleasant enough, nothing really jumps out. The playing is good, but it’s all a bit too polite. Dzihan & Kamien DJ Saturday (July 25) at Gypsy Co-op (817 Queen West).
