This is the kind of metalcore noise that drives me batshit, and I hate it. But I gotta say it's pretty amazingly complex noise, with labyrinthine rhythms played at breakneck speeds and mathematical guitars à la Fripp-meets-Satan coming together to create a frantic razor-sharp cacophony. Within Davidia is spooky, twisted and all over the bloody place, yet surprisingly well put together. The lyrics are a tad difficult to make out, since Aaron Wolff howls, roars and tends to yell a lot, but there is a story here about "the Davidia estate, the bloodline Davidia and the events that befall these people," involving a murder and a burning corpse. So it's a concept record. It probably takes a while to figure out the whole thing, but could be worth the effort.
The End play Rockit tomorrow (Friday, April 30).
