When bands are described as "atmospheric and expansive," it usually means you should drink strong coffee before listening. But Edmonton's the Faunts have livened up on the punctuation-happy Feel. Love. Thinking. Of., moving away from the floating dreamscape world of their filmic M4 EP.
It Hurts Me All The Time, for instance, is Brian Wilson jamming to My Bloody Valentine's I Only Said, while Das Malefitz gives an uptempo surge to Tangerine Dream-like sprawl, and I Think I'll Start A Fire tails the Death Cab route. The album's final third is mostly explorations in glacier rock, which works nicely as a softening comedown.
