THE FUCKING WRATH

Rating: NNNN

If you were asked to describe this California trio’s debut album, ‘something quite spectacular- and metal-sounding’ would ring true. Saying they sound like a ‘raging, fiery slab of crushing molten rage’ might convey the poundingly heavy, hard rock/metal vibe these guys have going on.

Somewhere between the full-bodied riffs of classic Sabbath, the speed and pummelling of classic thrash and death metal, and the giant, quasi-epic leanings of Mastodon, Season Of Evil is an exceptionally well-put-together exercise in metal appreciation.

Not really contrived-sounding at all so much as just doing exactly what it should, the record never slows down long enough to induce boredom, nor does it pretend to be anything but than what it is: awesome, brain-melting, beer-chugging, head-banging heaviness.
