How desperate are Sony execs for Lauryn Hill to break out of her earth mama meltdown phase and get back to recording pop music? Desperate enough to cobble together a half-assed, truck-stop-style greatest-hits record of her former karaoke hiphop group, the Fugees. Rather than simply re-releasing the Fugees’ breakthrough record, The Score, they’ve padded out Greatest Hits with a couple of throwaway remixes. There’s nothing new, nothing unreleased and nothing you need to hear that you haven’t heard before. The fact that the label couldn’t be arsed to dig up an acoustic or live track shows how uninterested they are.
