Some time ago, a bootleg collection of the Gladiators' singles tracks was making the rounds. It gathered the hard-to-find Studio One jams cut by part-time stonemason Albert Griffiths with his self-contained roots unit, the Gladiators.
It was a popular item, because many reggae fans were willing to put up with less than stellar sound quality for the sake of convenience. But, thankfully, Heartbeat has come forward with a similarly comprehensive singles overview drawn from the original master tapes rather than from scratchy singles.
Gladiators fans will be pleased to know there's no overlap with the material covered on the early hits comp, Presenting The Gladiators. Right on.
