These Glaswegian rockers take a stab at Suzi Quatro-style pub rock on their debut, which is at times a yawn-inducing exercise, at others creative and visceral. Lead singer Tippi is a compelling frontwoman with the requisite mix of middle-finger snarl and eyelash-flipping seduction that this kind of loin-rock demands. But too many songs are samey in the rock standard sense. Hot tracks like Falling Star and the Sahara Hotnights-sounding Heatseeker get lost amidst a half-dozen dozers like Sympathy. What could have been a strong EP gets watered down into a so-so LP. Still, considering they’ve been together barely two years, this debut is promising.
The Hedrons play CMW Friday (March 9) at Bovine Sex Club and Saturday (March 10) at Kathedral.
