The true proof of the goodness of this Isleys holiday album is that it was so smooth and seductive, I fell asleep to it, and when I woke up I was making love to a Christmas tree. It took 40 minutes to get the needles out.
Humiliating revelations aside, this is the most tasteful modern Christmas album I've ever heard. The production, once again by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, is lush yet subdued, complementing Ronald Isley's emotive falsetto. The arrangements are also quite nice, full of unexpected backups and instrumental solos.
Worth it alone just to hear Ron earnestly sing 'I believe in Santa Claus,' tenderly beg his lady What Can I Buy You? and swing along merrily to his Wurlitzer organ-guided Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
