Perhaps looking to enhance their sound, The Kills duo of Alison “VV” Mosshart and Jamie “Hotel” Hince reportedly travelled from the UK to Benton Harbor, Michigan, in search of one of the legendary recording consoles designed by Daniel Flickinger, hoping some mysterious analog mojo might rub off. It didn’t. The dead-boring No Wow is the dreariest patch of blues-rock they’ve hit yet. Will anyone be drawn to the whiny drone of two regular suburban stiffs trying to seem nasty while plinking around in the shag-carpeted family rec room? Maybe not. It sounds like a cry for help from two frustrated filmmakers desperate to get out of a recording contract.
